OCT. 24, 2008 - BACKWATERS HAS MOVED After many years in the Woodhill location, Backwater Outfitters (originally Dave's Tackle Box) has moved to a new location. They are now at 1066 New Circle Rd., suite 4. That is in Gilson Plaza, directly across New Circle from the entrance to Sam's Club. The phone number is (859)266 - 4506. This is Lexington's only locally owned, locally operated tackle shop. It has now been under new ownership for two years with customer service as the number one priority. They'll be open until nine in the evenings and Sunday hours beginning next week. Their extensive website is almost finished (thousands of items) and we'll link to it as soon as it's up and running. Visit their new location when you need anything related to fishing. Also, we are proud to announce that Evans Firearms & Archery (117 Southland Dr., Lexington, KY (859)277-7770) is now an Angler Graphics map dealer. The Morris Bookshop (408 Southland Dr., Lexington, KY,(859)276-0494) now has available copies of The Angler Graphics Fishing and Pleasure Boaters Guide to the Kentucky River. Other news: the North Color Laminated "combo" including Elmer Davis, Kincaid and Williamstown Lakes is now finished and ready for shipment. By spring, 15 color laminated "Small Lakes" maps will be available in the the form of a top bound book with completely laminated pages at a very reasonable price. From the looks of the economy, many anglers will be looking for fishin' holes closer to home and central Ky. is full of them. Look for it on this site. For example, Cedar Creek Lake is roughly an hour from Lexington, and is now producing huge bass on a regular basis. Largest so far is 9 lb. 4oz. A 10 pounder is going to happen any day and the state record is virtually certain to be broken soon. And finally, it seems that updated fishing reports are nonexistent anywhere (including the web). We are now setting up a network to provide current conditions and trends at locations all over Central Kentucky by early spring. The info will be on this site and will be absolutely free. We did this a few years ago, then deferred to others providing the same feature. Just goes to show - if you want it done right you got to do it yourself. Drop us an email and suggest what parameters you'd like to see (water temperature, clarity, etc.). Oh and another other thing - look for our 1957 Tomahawk fiberglass runabout (first commercially produced 'glass boat) with its 1957 Evinrude big twin on Central Kentucky waters. She's all back together, restored and running fine, making regular runs around Boonesboro and Clays Ferry on the Kentucky River. We hope you get on the water a few more times before cold weather sets in, and thanks for all your support. We're looking forward to spring 2009 as we start our 28th year. It'll be here before you know it - just a little while after Coach Brooks and the 'Cats win that third bowl game in a row! Angler Graphics Maps make PERFECT Stocking Stuffers! |
